About Rope
The canvas is divided into flat blocks of colour. Scalloped gold arcs run along the top edge, separated by a broad band of silver-grey combed in curved sweeps. Below sits a large rectangle of deep scarlet, and beneath that a narrow strip of muted teal ruled with fine horizontal lines. The right third is filled with scratched bronze-gold. Down the centre a length of real rope, painted over in gold, loops and doubles back in a long S curve, standing clear of the surface.
Small gold squiggles and dots, raised like piped icing, scatter across the red and teal areas, echoing the rope's curves. The mood is quiet and graphic rather than busy, with the tactile cord and combed paint giving the flat colour blocks something to catch the light.
Works above a low sideboard in a hallway, in a living room with charcoal or oatmeal walls, or in a home office where the red block adds a single strong accent. Pairs with brass lamps, walnut timber, leather and neutral linen. The raised rope reads best where side light or a picture light crosses it.
