The difference between a piece you keep looking at and a poster is whether the artist saw form or just equipment.

Most hobby art fails in the same way: it explains the object instead of looking at it. A diagram of a bicycle is a diagram. A print that notices rust, shadow and the geometry of two wheels is a picture. Violins, guitars and golf swings are vertical and suit a narrow wall beside a door. Many of these pieces use a dark background with one warm, lit subject, which is why they sing against white or pale grey walls and vanish on charcoal. Hang the centre at eye level, around 145cm, even above a piano.
