Food, wine and the long lunch

Forty hand-painted oil paintings of food, wine and the rooms they happen in: split figs and lemons on marble, espresso cups on a café table, dark bottles and half-filled glasses, a Mediterranean terrace at midday. Each one is painted to order in the size and framing you choose, so the brushwork is fresh and the canvas is yours alone. Free delivery Australia-wide, 21 to 28 days.

Why cuisine art

Food paintings belong in the dining room, not above the cooktop

Heat, steam and airborne cooking grease are hard on an oil surface, and kitchen downlights flatten every brushstroke you paid for.

Most people's first instinct is the splashback wall or the range hood alcove. Don't. Oil on canvas is unglazed, so a film builds up over a few years of frying and it cannot simply be wiped off. Put the painting where you eat instead, or on the wall a butler's pantry or fridge run would otherwise waste. If it must go in the kitchen proper, keep it well away from the cooktop and out of direct downlight.

In a dining room people are seated, so drop the centre of the painting to roughly 135 cm rather than the usual 145. Above a sideboard, leave 20 to 25 cm of clear wall and make the canvas at least two-thirds the width of the furniture below — a small canvas floating on a long wall is the most common mistake. Pick up one colour already in the room, a chair fabric or a bowl, and let the rest stay warm and neutral.

Questions people ask

Is this a print or a real painting?

A real painting. Every piece is hand-painted in oils on canvas by a professional artist. Nothing here is printed, and nothing is a print with paint dabbed on top.

How close is it to the original?

Very. Our artists work from high-resolution references of the original and match composition, colour and brushwork. Because it is painted by hand, no two are identical, which is rather the point.

What sizes can I order?

Seven standard sizes, from 60 × 50cm up to 200 × 135cm, and custom sizes on request. Open the size guide on any painting to see each size to scale next to a sofa.

Framed or unframed?

Your choice at checkout: stretched and ready to hang, rolled in a tube, or framed in floating, classic or ornate frames. A floating frame adds a few centimetres each side; an ornate frame adds roughly 8 to 12cm.

How long does it take?

21 to 28 days, because it is painted to order. Delivery is free and tracked anywhere in Australia.

What if I don't love it?

Thirty-day money-back guarantee. Tell us within thirty days of delivery and we will make it right or refund you.
